“Help! My mother inherited a home in University City. She’s not real estate savvy, so she asked me to handle it for her. I hired an agent and he hasn’t called us since listing the home 3 weeks ago. I’m planning to call him to find out what’s going on, but I can already tell we made a mistake hiring him. How do I get out of the contract?”
***ANSWER:
Sorry, it sounds like you got a slacker agent. Unless you got him to write in a clause allowing you to cancel at your discretion, you’ll have to ask him to let you out of the contract and hope he agrees.
By the way, not everyone works the same way, but here’s how I work…
I typically give my clients the right to cancel our contract any time provided we’re not in escrow or negotiations with a buyer. It makes some of my clients feel more comfortable.
Also, my marketing manager and I call my clients regularly. It’s rare if ever that even a week goes by without us updating our clients on the latest activity on their property.
Good luck with your situation…
