“It seems like all the agents Im talking with want to list my home for six months. Should I list for that long?
***ANSWER:
Provided you hire the right agent, theres a valuable benefit to giving the agent enough time to sell your home.
For example, say you have a short listing and you get a low offer a week before the listing expires. Do you want your agent pushing you to take it because his listing is almost up?
Or would you prefer he looks out for you and tells you to turn the offer down and wait for a better one? Give the agent time to do his job.
A word of caution
If you list with the WRONG agent, getting locked in a 180-day listing agreement could be a disaster. So ask for a cancellation clause letting you cancel any time youre not satisfied. I always give that right to my clients when they request it.
