“We need to do a short sale. Before we go any further and put our home on the market, we want to call our bank first and get an idea if they will even review a short sale for us or not. Do you think they would speak with us? Thanks again for your help!”
Answer:
They’ll definitely speak with you, though you may end up on hold for a long time. And calling your bank is a good idea, but they almost certainly will not review a short sale without an offer.
If you call, bear in mind that:
A) They’d rather you just keep making your payments and not do a short sale
B) The people answering their phones are often new and inexperienced, and may give incorrect information
The bottom line is to take everything they say with a grain of salt and run it by me to see if it’s accurate.
