“Hi Gary. We’re shopping agents to sell our home. What fee do you charge?”
Answer:
Say I told you, “I’ve got a house you can buy for $250,000.”
Would you buy it?
Or would you need to know a little bit about it first?
Would it make a difference to you if it’s a dilapidated crack-house in a scary neighborhood? …Or a newly built 5,000 square foot oceanfront home in La Jolla?
Knowing the price is half the story. The other half is knowing what you’re getting for your money.
And that same logic goes with choosing an agent.
I know some awful agents with a low fee who grossly overcharge clients because their poor service results in a lower price and higher selling costs and other problems.
I know and respect other skilled pros who are a bargain at a higher fee because they get their client more money, in less time, with less hassle and problems. These are people I’d trust my best friend with.
How will you tell the difference between an awful agent vs. a skilled professional? It’s not easy. They don’t wear a “Danger” sign around their neck. In fact, some of the awful ones get by because they’re good people people, so you’d never know.
