“The last time I bought a home, the agent rushed me to make an offer. I’m going to tell the next agent I work with that if he or she tells me to hurry I’ll dump them and use someone else. Am I being unreasonable?”
Answer:
Even in normal (not overheated) markets, the best homes sell quickly.
I sold a property once where my client literally beat out a competing buyer by 5 seconds. I’m not kidding—his signed acceptance came over all of 5 seconds before a broker called saying he was writing an offer for $25,000 higher. The seller wanted to go for the higher offer, but it was too late.
Obviously, never rush and buy a home you’re not sure you want. But when you see a home you do want, get a move on! If it’s a nice home, someone else may have seen it yesterday and could be planning to make an offer today.
