“I’m considering investing in San Diego real estate. I’m from the Bay Area where we have rent control. Do you have it in San Diego? If so, I’ll invest elsewhere as rent control is an outrageous infringement on people’s rights. It’s Big Brother telling you how much rent to charge. I hate it because it kills property values and forced me into becoming a slumlord as I couldn’t afford to maintain my property.”
Answer:
We have no rent control in San Diego County except, I believe, on mobile Escondido homes.
I hear what you’re saying about rent control. While going to college at UCLA, I lived in a rent control apartment in Brentwood. With the artificially low rent, there was no incentive for the landlord to keep up the property. We had an army of cockroaches, a giant hole in our bathroom ceiling, a roof leak, and lots of other problems that our landlord would never fix.
