“What do you think of buying a duplex as a first home?”
Answer:
Way back in 1986, the first home my wife and I bought was a Clairemont duplex. We stretched to buy it for $122,000, but we did get $425 per month for the other 2-bedroom unit. It worked out great.
So you can guess that I’m a big proponent for most people to consider buying a duplex as a first home.
My only caveat is you could have a situation where your neighbor doesn’t pay their rent and you’ll have to deal with it.
But I wouldn’t let that discourage you unless you’re nice to a fault, overly shy, or very non-confrontational.
