- Choosing the wrong agent, especially choosing on personality instead of experience and skill
- Choosing the wrong lender
- Not changing criteria if unable to find a home after several weeks
- Overpaying
- Not willing to pay full or over list pricewhen warranted
- Taking too long to offer when they find a well-priced home
- Not understanding short sales, especially how long it will take for an approval and whether the bank has already approved the price
- Thinking the home they buy will be perfect
- Not having urgency to get things done during escrow
- Choosing the wrong agent (did I mention that?)
By the way, these mistakes really apply whether you’re buying your first or fifth home.
