Question:
“My boyfriend and I want to buy a home. We’ve been together 6 months, but don’t have any current plans to get married. Do you think that’s a good idea?”
Answer:
Since I’m a Realtor, you might expect me to espouse the party line of, “Yes, it’s always a great time to buy a home!”
But—and you can call me a prude—I think you should think long and hard before you buy.
You’ve only been together 6 months and you’re not committed enough to marry. Are you really committed enough to sign a contract to own a home and have a mortgage? What if you split up? What happens then?
Maybe you are ready, but just be sure.
