Question:
“I’d like to buy my first home. I don’t need a lot of space; one bedroom should be enough. I don’t want a condo. Is there such a thing as a one bedroom house?”
Answer:
One-bedroom homes are very rare. I doubt that even close to 1 in a 100 homes have just one bedroom.
Two bedroom homes are more common. They likely comprise less than 10% of the homes out there, but you could find one.
But here’s another idea for you…
Have you thought about buying a duplex? You could probably find many with one or two bedrooms on one side. Then you could rent out the other side.
The downside is a little bit higher price and the joys of being a landlord, especially when you live right next door. You have to be OK with the idea of evicting the tenant if they don’t pay their rent, for example.
So as long as you’re not a pushover, I recommend a duplex as a first home. Mine was and it worked out quite well.
