Question:
“Hi Gary. I really enjoy reading your newsletter. I have a question. My wife and I will be buying our first home in San Diego. Do the buyer and seller both attend the closing, or just the agents?”
Answer:
None of the above.
Practices vary by geography. In some states, the buyer, seller, agents, attorney, etc. all sit around a table and sign documents and exchange funds.
In southern California (all of CA?), it’s a totally different system.
Deeds and documents are signed well before closing. Monies are handled by the title and escrow companies. And the actual “closing” happens when the county clerk stamps and records the grant deed.
So you won’t need to attend. After the deed records, it’s your home!
