Question:
[From a client whose rental house I listed]
“Can you get me bids to make some repairs the flooring? My property manager says I need to get the tenants’ permission to repair it. Is that correct?”
Answer:
As the owner, you have the right to make repairs and you only need to give the tenants 24-hour advance notice. You don’t have to get their permission.
If the repairs substantially impair the tenants’ ability to use and live in the home (e.g. a fumigation or water being turned off for an extended period), you will need to compensate them.
As always, since I’m not an attorney, please verify this with a legal professional. (Sorry, you must get tired of me saying that!)
