Question:
“We redid our baths a couple of years ago and now we’re considering remodeling our kitchen. We plan to sell the house in 2015 when I retire. How much will a kitchen remodel increase our home value?”
Answer:
Someone asked me the same question TODAY.
The answer: it depends. It depends on:
- How much your kitchen (or bath or whatever) needs it
- The design, quality, and workmanship
- If the finished product is commensurate with your neighborhood
Regarding #2, for your countertops, you must go granite or better. While granite was very high end years ago, today you’ll find it even in entry level condos.
Stats show that the average kitchen remodel brings you about 85% of what you put into it, but that’s not really a number that you can automatically apply to your home.
