Question:
“I’ve got a confession. Although I’ve been reading your newsletter for years, I didn’t follow your advice. I had to sell my mom’s house in Anaheim. I interviewed 3 agents and unfortunately chose the one who told me what was by far the highest price. It ended badly. She overpriced the house and I had to fire her and go with one of the other agents…”
Answer:
Heard of the 1970 “Stanford Marshmallow Experiment”? Probably not, unless you’ve studied psychology.
In it, children were offered one marshmallow right then, or two if they waited 15 minutes. It was testing who could delay gratification. In follow-up studies with the same subjects (now adults), it was found that those who were better at delaying gratification led more successful lives.
Why am I telling you this?
Because unlike many Realtors, I’d rather make you UNhappy now if it’s going to make you happy later.
Specifically, I’d rather tell you the truth up front about what price you’ll get for your home.
