Question:
“Hi Gary. Turns out you were right on about the price of our home. The agent we listed with was about $400,000 too high. But he worked hard for 6 months, so we’re going to give him another shot and relist the house with him next month…”
Answer:
(NOTE: this is what I wanted to say, not what I said…)
You can’t be serious!
The other agent either grossly bungled your home value or purposely inflated it to get you to sign with him. Both are BAD.
Either way, you said you chose him because you wanted the most money (who doesn’t?) and preferred his price for your home.
So now you’re actually going to reward him not just once, but a SECOND time for his lack of skill and/or ethics and “give him another shot”?
Are you really thinking this through? Do you realize choosing a professional to handle one of the biggest financial transactions of your life is a business decision? It’s not like you’re deciding on a bridge partner.
So take a moment and think before you re-hire an agent who has wasted 6 months of your life AND is either unskilled or dishonest.
Then please do yourself a favor and hire a different agent, even if it’s not me.
There, I said it! …Well, actually I only thought it. What I said was much, much gentler.
