Question:
“My wife and I want to buy a home. Should we meet with an agent to find out about loans and what we qualify for?”
Answer:
You SHOULD meet with an agent, but not to find out about qualifying. That’s best left to a good mortgage loan officer.
So what steps should you take to find a home?
Well, the fun part is looking at homes. But it’s not your first step. It’s like when your mother said you couldn’t have dessert until you ate your vegetables.
1. Ask a good Realtor for a referral to an experienced loan officer. (Call our office for a reference.)
2. Talk to the loan officer, find out about loans, get prequalified, and start the preapproval process (a.k.a. vegetables).
3. Sit down with that good Realtor and discuss your…
a. …needs and wants
b. …hopes and dreams
c. …fears and concerns
…and make a plan to work together to find a home.
4. Then go out househunting and find your dream home. (Dessert!)
