The Fisheries Board building cost roughly $5 million to build. Completed in early 2012, the building was designed to resemble a fish in keeping with the department’s area of focus.
Little information is available about this bizarre structure. It seems surprising that the designers would take such an unusual approach, but they were reportedly inspired by legendary architect Frank Gehry’s fish sculpture in Barcelona.
Violet-blue spotlights illuminate the fish at night, giving viewers the sense that it’s swimming through the city.
The creativity is admirable… let’s just hope the sewage and sanitation department doesn’t get any bright ideas about buildings shaped like toilets.
