Some of the past crazy buildings have been extraordinarily high. This one is 100 feet deep!
Chand Baori is one of the world’s largest stepwells, extends 13 stories downward into the earth. It is so deep, in fact, that it is several degrees cooler at the bottom and was once used as a gathering place during intense heat.
It was built roughly 1200 years ago, and is completely covered by staircases on three sides. There are over 3,500 steps in all. On the remaining side is a pavilion and resting room for the royals, filled with beautiful sculptures.
