Built in 2014 and named after (who else?) Bill and Melinda Gates, this unusual structure looks like something out of a sci-fi movie. But it’s actually the administrative center for the Information and Computer Science departments at Cornell University.
The massive cantilevered entryway, the mix of gray and bright orange coloring and the scale-like steel facade set this apart from the other buildings on campus (or really, anywhere else).
But Gates Hall has more than that as its claim to fame: its dozens of environmentally friendly features will likely garner a prestigious LEED “gold” rating.
