This week’s crazy building is the Hundertwasser House in Vienna, Austria.
This strange apartment building is the brainchild of Austrian artist Friedensreich Hundertwasser (a name that truly rolls off the tongue!).
He convinced city planners to go along with his idea of a building with undulating floors, bright contrasting colors and even a forested roof terrace. Even Hundertwasser’s hired architect was so against the project that he had to replace him with a new one.
The result? The artist’s dream came true, and Hundertwasserhaus (as it’s known in German) is one of Vienna’s most visited landmarks. Sometimes pie-in-the-sky ideas really do pay off!
