People ask me all the time whether there is a “best time” to sell their homes or not. Particularly, a lot of people are under the impression that summer is the best time. While it’s true that buyer and seller activity is up during the summer months, I would say that calling summer “the best time” to sell is a bit of a myth for a few reasons.
First, if you are in a northern state like Minnesota, Wisconsin, or North Dakota, then yes, summer is probably the best time to sell due to the cold weather. That’s not necessarily indicative of the country as a whole, or San Diego for that matter. Another reason summer is believed to be the “best time” to sell is that you tend to hear home selling statistics a few months after the fact. What I mean is that when homes sell in April and close in June, those statistics get reported in July or August; that’s when the headlines get reported of “huge sale numbers”.
That being said, is there a best time to sell in San Diego? Well, March, April, and May are good times to get your property on the market, but I would say outside of the last two weeks of the year, any time is a good time to sell in San Diego.
