This week’s crazy building is Shanghai Tower in Shanghai, China.
At 2,073 feet high, Shanghai Tower is the second tallest building on earth. It has an incredible 128 stories dedicated to a combination of office, retail and leisure space.
In addition to its dizzying height, the tower has an unusual twisting facade.
The main structure of the building is actually a massive cylinder, but it’s enclosed by another layer of warping, twisting glass that creates a series of atriums that feature gardens and restaurants.
Another high-tech feature: Among the 106 (!) elevators are three ultra-high-speed transporters. These elevators have a record-shattering top speed of over 40 miles per hour.
From the incredible height to the ingenious design, Shanghai Tower is truly a building of the future!
