This week’s crazy building is the High Heel Church in Chiayi, Taiwan.
A church made of glass may conjure images of elegance and piety. A church made of a glass slipper? That’s another story.
This 55-foot structure is made of over 300 blue-tinted glass panels, arranged in the shape of a giant shoe. The bizarre church is to be used mainly for wedding ceremonies and photography.
Its inspiration comes not from Cinderella, though, but from a local legend of a bride-to-be whose legs had to be amputated. According to the story, her wedding was cancelled, and she spent the rest of her life in a church.
The purpose of the design? Why, to attract more women, of course!
And according to one spokesman, the draws for women won’t stop there: “There will be 100 female-oriented features in the church like maple leaves, chairs for lovers, biscuits and cakes.”
Because when you think of women, you naturally think of maple leaves and biscuits… right?
