This week’s crazy building is Intempo in Benidorm, Spain.
At 630 feet tall, it’s the tallest residential building in Spain and one of the tallest buildings in the world for cities under 100,000 residents.
It was meant to represent the success of Spain, but came to symbolize the country’s debt woes. Work began in 2007 and would have been finished in 2009, but the economic crisis delayed completion until 2014. The developers were forced to shut down, it was put up for auction for about $100 million.
This skyscraper actually consists of two towers separated by a 66-foot gap. They’re connected at the top by a massive cone-shaped structure.
The overall shape of the building looks somewhat like a letter M. The facade of the building is clad with gold-tinted glass, making the entire imposing structure look like the secret lair of a Bond villain.
Or, considering both the M and the gold together… maybe King Midas?
