Buying a San Diego home? Search all homes for sale
For this latest edition of “Story Time With Gary,” I’d like to tell you about the time I accidentally had the chance to leave the Speaker of the House a voice message.
Many years ago, some clients of mine wanted to sell a five-unit apartment complex that I previously helped them buy. These clients lived on the East Coast, so after I put the apartment complex on the market and got an offer on it, I tried to reach them but couldn’t.
After a day or two of unreturned phone calls, I called the wife’s mother and asked her where her daughter was. She told me she was on a cruise but didn’t know which cruise line it was. She then said the wife’s son knew, but she didn’t know what his number was. All she could tell me was that he worked at the House of Representatives as a page or some similar position.
I then called the House of Representatives and listened through multiple voicemails until I somehow ended up in the voice mailbox of the Speaker of the House, who at the time was Denny Hastert. I didn’t leave him a message because I figured he had more important things to do. However, I was able to track down the son. He then told me how to reach his parents, who I was able to finally contact and get the property sold.
“I figured the Speaker of the House had more important things to do.”
My advice? If you go on vacation when your home is for sale, make sure there is a way your agent can reach you.
Thanks for joining me once again for this edition of “Story Time With Gary.” If you’re thinking of buying or selling a home, please don’t hesitate to give me a call. I’d be happy to help you.
