Buying a San Diego home? Search all homes for sale
I’ve got quite a story to share with you today on this edition of “Story Time With Gary.” Like all the other stories I’ve told you, this one is 100% true and accurate.
There was once an agent in San Diego that was selling two homes on the same street. Another agent showed both of the homes to his buyers. One of the buyer’s agent’s clients fell in love with one of the homes and wrote an offer. The offer was accepted, inspections and appraisals were completed, and the transaction closed.
However, when the new homeowners pulled up to their property on moving day, the owner of the home was still there. They were confused, and asked the owner why he was still in the house. He was just as confused and responded with, “What are you talking about? My home hasn’t sold yet.”
It turns out that the buyer’s agent had written the wrong address on the offer. It was the address from the listing agent’s other home on the same street. They actually bought and closed on a different house than what they thought they had purchased.
I’m not sure what happened in the aftermath, but I’m sure it involved attorneys, courtrooms, and the like. It was a nightmare scenario. Always double check the address is right on your offer when looking at a lot of homes in the same area. It’s better to be safe than sorry.
“The buyer’s agent wrote the wrong address on the offer.”
