The Sheraton Huzhou Hot Spring Resort or Moon Hotel is located in Huzhou, China overlooking lake Taihu. Thanks to LED lighting, at night the hotel actually glows, giving the appearance of a full moon rising over the lake. Although it appears to be a semi-circle, the building does connect beneath the water with 2 underground levels.
Each room has a private balcony and the unique shape of the building provides shade and natural ventilation. Due to the ultra white glass facade, each room enjoys ample sunlight throughout the day.
Architect Ma Yansong envisioned the hotel as a symbol of the unity between man and nature, which is a meaningful part of Chinese culture. Other sources of inspiration were traditional ink paintings, famous in Huzhou. The arch shaped bridges often seen in them are important elements of Chinese architecture.
