The Zaandam, located in the Netherlands, is a combination of about 70 different buildings — all in one. The 11-story hotel contains 160 rooms and is in the city center of Zaandam.
Designed by Wilfried van Winden, he drew inspiration from the traditional green wooden houses in the area. The style is one original to van Winden which he calls fusion and describes as the linking of past and present, tradition and innovation.
The hotel construction is part of a city center redevelopment plan which also includes reinstating the historical street layout and reopening a canal.
The nearby Zaanse Schans area is a popular tourist destination and allows visitors to step back in time to the 18th and 19th centuries.
