Located in the Beijing central business district, the CCTV (China Central Television) Headquarters building or “big pants” as locals call it stands at 767 feet high. The unique 44 story building brings together all of CCTV’s television making staff in one location.
Designed by architecture firm OMA the building is distinct from the usual skyscraper concept. Instead of a single vertical, the CCTV Headquarters is composed of two verticals which come together in a 246-foot cantilever. Interestingly, it appears differently depending on the angle it is viewed from. It is OMA’s largest project and first major building in China.
One year after it’s completion it was the 2013 winner of the Best Tall Building Worldwide award as well as winning the popular vote for Best Tall Building.
