The Float At Marina Bay is the largest of its kind in the world. Located in Singapore, this unique floating stage is well suited to the tropical climate. Nearly the size of a football field it can actually be modified for various events, reconfigured to different sizes, and moved around the bay.
Originally it was only intended as an interim space while the Singapore Sports Hub was under construction. Recently it was announced that it will be expanded and remain permanently.
It has hosted events such as concerts, the 2010 Youth Olympics, and served as one of the seating areas for the Singapore Grand Prix.
It may seem simple but The Float had to conform to several restrictions such as being environmentally friendly and also fitting in with its surroundings. Its construction required the efforts of civil, mechanical, and marine engineers as well as naval architects. Thanks to smart planning the city skyline forms a backdrop. 200 pontoons keep it above the water.
The Float At Marina Bay is an innovative solution uniting a fascinating blend of utility with the environment. To see more of my posts on Singapore’s interesting architecture, click here. Or explore another crazy building here!
