The Nordpark Cable Railway in Innsbruck, Austria looks like something from a sci-fi movie. The fluid forms of each of the 4 stations seem impossible to have actually been built! This is the signature style of architect Zaha Hadid.
Hadid, who passed away in 2016, changed the practice of 21st-century architecture. Inspired by Russian abstract painter Kazimir Malevich, she felt that looking at his work freed her from the constraints typically placed on architects.
Design inspiration for this project came from studying nature, specifically ice movements and glacial drift. The stations, which consist of lightweight double-curvature glass rooves above concrete plinths required the latest technology developed for the automotive industry.
