What happens when a real estate agent goes head-to-head with a client’s pet bird? Find out in today’s “Story Time With Gary.”
If your idea of what a day in the life of a Realtor is like comes solely from TV shows like “Million Dollar Listing,” then you might be surprised to hear the story I’m going to share with you today.
Real estate agents deal with much more than just showing properties and filling out documents in their day-to-day work. To illustrate this, allow me to tell you about an encounter I’ll never forget.
When this story took place, I was visiting the property of a very sweet older woman who was, unfortunately, not in great health. She knew she needed to sell, but felt nervous about the prospect of doing so. Of course, I was happy to help.
When I arrived at her home and rang her doorbell, I was greeted moments later by not only my client, but also her two pets. She had a dog by her side and a bird on her shoulder. Everything was going fine at first, but as we were saying our hellos, the dog made a break for it. I put my leg out toward the door frame, hoping to stop its escape, but then, in all the commotion, my poor client began to fall backwards.
“By some stroke of luck, though, the bird let go, the dog backed up into the house, and my client regained her balance.”
As I reach out to catch her, her pet bird leans toward my hand and bites me. This leaves the bird and me in somewhat of a stalemate: I couldn’t move my hand without dropping my client, but the bird wasn’t about to let go, either. By some stroke of luck, though, the bird let go, the dog backed up into the house, and my client regained her balance.
Thankfully, the deal after this point was nothing but smooth sailing. My client successfully sold her home, earned top dollar for it, and was able to live happily ever after in a retirement community.
