The Cineteca Nacional, located in Mexico City has a new futuristic look. It was revitalized in 2014 by Rojkind Arquitectos.
They were originally hired to renovate and expand the space but ended up making several smart changes to more effectively utilize the area and better serve the people who use it.
Originally the parking lot took up over 40% of the campus. The architects created a 6 story parking garage which increased parking capacity by 25%. They changed the former parking lot into a green public plaza.
Another big change was reopening the pedestrian-friendly entrance in the back. About 70% of visitors arrive on foot and thousands walk the grounds daily on the way to the nearby metro station.
Additional screening rooms were added as well as an outdoor amphitheater. Now, 2,495 visitors can be accommodated in various indoor theaters, 750 can use the outdoor amphitheater, and space for 50,000 more film reels was added to the archives.

The government was doubtful at first if the proposed changes would be embraced by the community but locals have made it their own. Nearby hospital workers eat their lunches there and even people from the community use the space for gatherings.
