This week’s crazy buildings are the Flower Dome and Cloud Forest conservatories in Singapore’s Gardens by the Bay.
The incredible complex is the centerpiece of Singapore’s master plan to become a “City in a Garden.” It’s filled with jaw-dropping feats of engineering and massive amounts of greenery.
The Flower Dome covers three acres and contains a mild, dry climate with flora from the Mediterranean and tropics.
The Cloud Forest has plants from more mountainous regions and includes a miniature mountain itself. Cloud Mountain is covered in orchids, ferns, and a variety of other plant life.
The project also includes other wonders, like the grove of huge “Supertree” vertical gardens outside.
All told, the entire complex cost roughly $1 billion! But considering the incredible, almost otherworldly environment they’ve created, it may have been well worth the investment.
