Buying a San Diego home? Search all homes for sale
Welcome to another “Story Time With Gary”.
This story comes from quite a while ago. A fellow that I knew once called me and said, “Hey, a friend of mine wants to buy a home. Can we go to your office and talk about it?”
I said, “Absolutely.”
So we set an appointment and this guy showed up with two other guys that I didn’t know. The guy that I knew said, “Here’s the thing—my friend who wants to buy a home doesn’t speak any English. He only speaks Japanese.”
I told him that I don’t speak Japanese, but he said not to worry and told me that his other friend speaks Japanese. I said, “Okay, I don’t know if I’m comfortable, but let’s give it a shot.”
“I referred the man to an agent who spoke Japanese. “
Then he said, “My other friend who speaks Japanese doesn’t speak any English, either. He only speaks Japanese and Spanish.”
I was stumped.
Then the guy I knew said, “The good news is that I speak Spanish! So you’ll talk to me in English, I’ll translate into Spanish to the second guy, and then he’ll talk to the guy who wants to buy a home in Japanese. Then we’ll go back.”
I told the guy that I really appreciated the referral but unfortunately, there was no way for me to know if the man who wanted to buy a home really understood what I was saying. Instead, I wound up referring him to an agent who spoke Japanese.
Although I don’t speak Japanese, I do speak the language of real estate. If you are thinking of buying or selling a home, just give me a call or send me an email. I would be happy to help you.
