Del Cerro
Del Cerro is a San Diego community that is located slightly inland but remains within its metropolitan zone. As its name (Spanish for “of the hill”) suggests, it is situated largely on a series of hilltops. The area’s history began in the late 1800s, but it only underwent serious residential development starting in the 1950s.

What’s Cool About Del Cerro
The eastern portion of Del Cerro is primarily residential and includes several beautiful parks. This includes Lake Murray and the surrounding parkland, which are ideal for fishing, jogging, biking, and picnicking. Two golf courses, Mission Trails and Admiral Baker, are situated respectively at eastern and western ends of the community. Grantville to the southwest serves as the region’s commercial district, and the Del Cerro and Allied Gardens shopping centers offer an additional selection. Qualcomm Stadium, the home stadium of the San Diego Chargers, along with several large malls, are situated just to the west in Mission Valley. San Diego State University lies right outside its southern border and in some cases is less than a 5-minute drive away.
Del Cerro is bounded to the south by the Interstate 8 for quick access to surrounding areas. It contains a high proportion of older, married residents, who often own homes with stunning views of the surrounding canyons and city. Del Cerro is a great choice for those looking for a quiet neighborhood in the hills that still has easy access to nearby shops and activities. By Gary Kent
