Logan Heights
Logan Heights is a densely populated community just to the east of downtown San Diego. Despite the “Heights” in its name, the region is situated on relatively low, flat land right next to San Diego Bay to the west. This humble area is loaded with community and tradition, and the majestic blue arc of the Coronado Bridge can often be seen rising up over the water.

What’s Cool About Logan Heights
Memorial Community Park has several sports fields, picnic land, a pool and a 22,000 square foot skate park, while Chicano Park features 73 murals and sculptures commemorating various aspects of Chicano history and culture. Bookworms will rejoice at the newly built Logan Heights Public Library, which boasts a computer lab and 300-seat community room. Locals can also sample a wide selection of delicious, hearty Mexican cuisine from spots like Las Cuatro Milpas or Tacos El Paisa. To the northwest is Downtown San Diego, which hosts attractions including Petco Park, Seaport Village, Horton Plaza Mall, and the restaurants and nightlife of the Gaslamp Quarter. About a mile to the north is Balboa Park, which includes the San Diego Zoo, multiple theaters and over a dozen museums dedicated to art, history and science.
Several freeways allow Logan Heights quick access to any part of San Diego, and many points of interest like the beautiful beaches of Coronado are close by. Homes tend to be small and inexpensive with 1-2 bedrooms, and the large, young-skewing households are often Spanish-speaking. Most residents rent at very cheap prices, usually below $600. While Logan Heights is far from the most luxurious San Diego neighborhood, it’s rich with culture, diversity and nearby excitement. By Gary Kent
