Serra Mesa

Serra Mesa is a primarily residential neighborhood located in the northern metro area of San Diego. It lies on higher ground relative to the south and east, with canyons running through its center. The area as it appears today began with the construction of Navy housing in the 1950s, with more traditional housing being developed later.

What’s Cool About Serra Mesa

There are three parks in the neighborhood, including the Serra Mesa Recreation Center, which has a gymnasium and sports facilities. Residents can also practice their golf and baseball swings at the Stadium Golf Center & Batting Cages, or hike in the region’s vegetation-filled canyons. Qualcomm Stadium, home of the San Diego Chargers, lies just outside Serra Mesa’s southern edge. The malls of Mission Valley to the south and southwest offer a vast selection of shopping. San Diego Mesa College can be found less than a mile to the west in Linda Vista, and both USD and SDSU are also relatively close. Three major hospitals can also be found right outside the area’s western border.

The 8, 15, 805, and 163 freeways can all be found close by. With its mid-size houses and diversely-aged residents, Serra Mesa is more family-oriented than Mission Valley to the south. Serra Mesa is suitable who those who desire a peaceful residential neighborhood but also want access to plenty of activities in the surrounding region. By Gary Kent
