What’s Cool About Lakeside
In the center of town is the namesake, Lindo Lake is still a popular park for young and old alike. Originally, a destination resort for the wealthy of Southern California, its history includes one of the first automobile racetracks with racing legend Barney Oldfield. Like other places in San Diego County the Santa Fe Railroad tried growing eucalyptus trees which gives the name to the Eucalyptus Hills area rising above the Lakeside Farms neighborhoods. The El Monte valley area is another tribute to both the beauty and the agricultural heritage of Lakeside. Most high school students attend El Capitan next to the world-famous Lakeside Rodeo grounds.
Scripps Ranch and Poway can be found to the north of Lakeside, Santee to the west, El Cajon to the south, and Tierrasanta farther to the west. With easy access to state highways, 67 and 52 and Interstate 8, Lakeside is more than a bedroom community of San Diego. By Gary Kent
