Santee
Santee is a populous city in eastern San Diego. It resides mostly in flat valleys encompassed by foothills, although the Sky Ranch area rises dramatically to overlook the suburban landscape. Shopping centers and restaurants are abundant toward the center of town, surrounded by large swaths of residential land and Gillespie Airport to the south.

What’s Cool About Santee
Santee Lakes Park includes seven ponds where locals can jog, fish, or rent a paddleboat with their kids, while baseball and soccer fields abound at Sportsplex USA. The local golf course, Carlton Oaks, was created in 1958 by famous course designer Pete Dye. Santee Boulders is arguably the best boulder-climbing spot in the county, and for those who crave a hike with a view, Cowles Mountain to the southwest is sure to satisfy. Locals with a sweet tooth often visit Penguin Yogurt Factory or pick up delicious fresh apple fritters at Mary’s Donuts. The nostalgic can catch a movie at the Santee Drive-In Theatre, one of the few remaining in San Diego. Grossmont, a highly rated 18,000-student community college, is located at the region’s southern border.
Scripps Ranch and Poway can be found to the north of Santee, Lakeside to the east, El Cajon to the south, and Tierrasanta to the west. Although this area is located rather far inland, the 52 freeway will take one to La Jolla’s gleaming blue coastline in only about 25 minutes. Homes in the tranquil residential areas tend to have 2-4 bedrooms. Santee is perfect for people who enjoy warm weather and a traditional atmosphere. By Gary Kent
