Spring Valley
Spring Valley is a beautiful inland San Diego community surrounded by gently sloping foothills and the towering San Miguel Mountain to the southeast. Originally inhabited by the Kumeyaay Indians, it was later named after a local spring by the Spanish padres who lived there in 1775. Today the area is still full of culture and prospering with schools, families and businesses.

What’s Cool About Spring Valley
Along with several small parks and a community center full of sports and dance programs, there’s also a ranch that offers horseback riding and the historic Bancroft Ranch House Museum. At Spring Valley’s southern border lies Sweetwater Reservoir, which has many campsites and great fishing spots. Residents can also spend a leisurely Sunday bargain-hunting at the Spring Valley Swap Meet. Local cuisine, like the authentic Mexico City-style food at Ranas or the classic American dishes at Cali Comfort, should satisfy any craving. Every March and October the area hosts the San Diego Mud Run, which takes place on a muddy, fun-filled 5-kilometer obstacle course.
Spring Valley is south of El Cajon and just east of Lemon Grove and La Mesa. Thanks to the 94 freeway, the excitement of downtown San Diego is only about 15 minutes to the west. Its climate is a bit on the warm side, with average highs in the mid-80s during the summertime. There are a high proportion of married couples and children, and many jobs are found in retail and the education and health sectors. All in all, Spring Valley has a lot to offer: rich history, charming rural scenery and a relaxed ambiance. By Gary Kent
